Switchboard Operator/Receptionist

Job Summary:

The Receptionist is responsible for greeting visitors, routine telephone calls, maintaining records, and various other administrative and clerical duties requiring knowledge of the office routine and an understanding of the organization, programs, and procedures related to the work of the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greets visitors, determines the nature of their visit, and appropriately directs them to the appropriate persons.
  • Relays incoming, outgoing, and intra-system calls via a private branch exchange (PBX) system.
  • Listens to , receives, and resolve complaints.
  • May make future appointments and answer inquiries.
  • Collects and distributes mail and messages.
  • Responsible for controlling access to facility; keeping a log of visitors and issuing visitor passes.
  • Prepares and maintain filing system for required documents.
  • May also type and perform other routine clerical work, such as data entry & document processing.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties, as needed.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
